Up to 72 hours of Erythema (redness and swelling), follicular edema {goose bump looking welts).

Histamine reaction (red itchy rash) is common and is treated with over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream or an oral antihistamine (such as Benadryl) medication help to shorten the duration of the symptoms.

Applying a cooling treatment such as Aloe immediately after treatment also helps.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Without damaging the surrounding skin, controlled flashes of intense pulses of light penetrate the area of skin being treated and is absorbed into the hair follicles. The heat generated in the process targets, damages and destroys the hair and its potential for regrowth.

Best results are often achieved with clients who have fair skin and dark hair. Dark hair is more easily treated as it has a high concentration of melanin. Fair hair, however, contains less melanin and is harder to treat. We recommend a consultation with your clinician to ascertain if the treatment will be successful for you.

Patients achieve spectacular results after 6-8 sessions. From our extensive experience in hair removal, we would expect an 85% reduction in hair. If hair grows back in areas which we have treated, we would encourage you to contact us.

Most of our clients report that the treatment is comfortable and pain-free. On sensitive areas of the body sensation varies but could cause light discomfort often described as “an ick of an elastic band”. Typically no anaesthesia is required, and most clients describe the discomfort as light to moderate and tolerable.

The skin may be red immediately after treatment and the hair follicles may be swollen and bumpy but this usually subsides within a few hours. Unwanted reactions are rare but may include a small blister or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin.

Once the hair follicle is damaged, it cannot grow new hair. However, there are invariably a few hair follicles that manage to partially escape the laser during each treatment. Some of these follicles may be only stunned and will need to be retreated.

The process

PRE-TREATMENT

◎  Avoid taking over-the counter blood thinning medications such as Aspirin, Non-steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS) such as (ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Midol, Etc.), 5 days prior to the procedure.

Do not drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours before (or after) your treatment to avoid extra bruising.

Patients with certain medical conditions may not have this procedure done including those with any type of facial paralysis such as Bell’s palsy, Guillain-Barre Syndrome and Myasthenia Gravis.

Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use Botox®.

Schedule your Botox appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event that you may be attending. Results from Botox injections will take approximately 4 to 7 days to appear. Also bruising and swelling may be apparent in that time period.

Reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance if you have a rash, cold sore or blemish on the area.

If you have a history of cold sores please let your provider know, they may put you on an anti-viral medication prior to treatment.

Be sure to have a good breakfast, including food and drink before your procedure. This will decrease the chances of lightheadedness during your treatment.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Arrive at Simply Radiant with a “clean face”. Please do not wear makeup. You may bring your own makeup to apply after your treatment. We do provide makeup wipes if you are unable to cleanse before you arrive.

◎  Although anesthesia is not required (there is already lidocaine mixed in the pre-filled syringe), our clinicians may use topical or injectable anesthesia to numb the treatment area first if you desire.

◎  The procedure is quick and easy – you’re usually done in 15-30 minutes depending on the area being treated.

◎  Redness and swelling are normal. Some bruising may also occur.

◎  You may experience some tenderness at the treatment site(s) that can last for a few hours or a few days.

POST-TREATMENT

◎  Do NOT rub or massage the treated area for 24 hours after your treatment.

◎  Do NOT do strenuous exercise for 4 hours after treatment.

◎  Avoid hats, headbands, etc. for the rest of the day of your Botox treatment.

◎  Avoid facials and saunas for 4 hours after treatment. This will minimize the risk of raising your blood pressure and therefore minimizing your risk of temporary bruising.

◎  Feel free to shower and go about most regular daily activities.

◎  Do NOT lie down for 4 hours after treatment. This will reduce the risk of pressure on the treated areas from your pillow and avoid the risk of having the area rubbed accidently.

◎  Be assured that any tiny bumps or marks will disappear within a few hours of your treatment. If you need to apply make-up within 4 hours of your treatment, only use a GENTLE touch to avoid rubbing the treated area.

◎  Results of your treatment may take up to 14 days to take full effect. Please wait 14 days before assessing your treatment results. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

◎  Botox is a temporary procedure and at first, you may find that your treatment results will last approximately 3-4 months. If you maintain your treatment appointments with the frequency recommended, the duration of each treatment result may last longer than this.

◎  Simply Radiant sees clients 3-4 months following treatment. We are able to create the best results for you this way. If you allow Botox to completely wear off, it is difficult for us to be able to see how your individual muscles reacted and therefore optimal results for you are harder to achieve.

BOTOX

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Botox® is a temporary procedure where initial treatment results last approximately 3-4 months. It is accomplished by injecting small amounts of Botox® solution in the area of the wrinkles. Botox, a neurotoxin, attaches itself to nerve endings. This blocks the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that’s responsible for triggering your facial muscles’ contractions. Your facial muscles relax, and the lines and wrinkles in the skin above them smooth away.

This treatment is approved for usage in Canada for both cosmetic and medical reasons. If you are nervous about the idea of injecting a neurotoxin, you can take comfort in knowing that results are temporary; the Botox will be metabolized in roughly 3-4 months. Most patients tolerate Botox injections very well. While side effects are rare, there are risks with any procedure. In some cases, patients experience headaches and bruising. If Botox is administered by an inexperienced technician, there is the risk of temporary muscle paralysis. Depending on the area of injection, this can result in difficulty making facial expressions or moving the mouth. It’s important to receive treatment by a certified nurse or doctor with the expertise required for these injections.

Since Botox is used in a range of areas, ask yourself where you would like to see results. You may wish to target fine lines between your eyebrows or on your forehead. Others may want to enhance their mouth with a lip flip, or make their face shape more sculpted-looking with a masseter reduction. It’s easy to combine treatments if you would like injections in several areas. Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not receive Botox treatments. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients in Botox, this procedure is not advised. Those with infections at the injection site should wait until they are cleared up before receiving the treatment.

Botox can be used to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. In target areas, it can be used to make the face look slimmer or more relaxed. We offer a variety of Botox services, which include: Forehead Lines, Frown Lines, Crow’s Feet, Masseters, Chin Dimpling, and Lips.

Fillers use an injection of hyaluronic acid to add plumpness and volume to different areas of the face, including the mouth and cheekbones. Botox is a neurotoxin that attaches to nerve endings to prevent facial muscles from contracting. The results of these two procedures are quite different: fillers make the skin look sculpted and voluptuous, while Botox diminishes wrinkles and prevents the formation of new ones. Fillers are suitable for those who want a dramatic difference in their appearance. Botox is effective for anti-aging, subtle face changes, and certain medical treatments. The effects of fillers last longer but this procedure tends to be more expensive.

Botox can be administered to prevent the formation of wrinkles. Lines are formed in the face from repeated contractions of the muscles. Since Botox stops these muscles from clenching, wrinkles will not be formed.

There are a variety of conditions that Botox has been approved to treat. It’s medicinally used for excessive sweating, migraines, and muscular conditions. Health Canada approves the use of Botox for these treatments, so you may be eligible for insurance coverage if you suffer from these conditions.

The units of Botox required depend on the treatment area and the size of the muscles. During your consultation, your face will be examined to determine this answer.

Botox is a temporary procedure where initial treatment results last approximately 3-4 months. If treatment appointments are frequent and maintained, the duration of treatment results may last longer.

PRE-TREATMENT

Avoid taking over-the counter blood thinning medications such as Aspirin, Non-steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS) such as (ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Midol, Etc.), 5 days prior to the procedure.

Vitamin E, Fish Oil & Omega 3, Gingko Biloba, St. John’s Wart, Ginseng and Garlic 7 – 10 days prior to the procedure. These drugs and herbs may cause excessive bleeding or bruising.

Do not drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours before (or after) your treatment to avoid extra bruising.

Inform our clinical team if you have a history of cold sores to receive advice on possible antiviral therapy prior to treatment.

Do not use Juvederm if you are pregnant or breastfeeding,

Do not use Juvederm if you are allergic to any of its ingredients (E.g., Eggs), or suffer from any neurological disorders.

Please inform us if you have any questions about this prior to the treatment.

Arnica Montana (found at any health food store) will also help prevent bruising and swelling and is recommended.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING

Arrive at Simply Radiant with a “clean face”. Please do not wear makeup. You may bring your own makeup to apply after your treatment. We do provide makeup wipes if you are unable to cleanse before you arrive.

Although anesthesia is not required (there is already lidocaine mixed in the pre-filled syringe), our clinicians may use topical or injectable anesthesia to numb the treatment area first if you desire.

Juvederm is introduced to your skin to augment or fill, wrinkles and folds. Following the injection, your clinician may gently massage the treated areas to mold it for an optimal result.

The procedure is quick and easy – you’re usually done in 15-30 minutes.

◎  Redness and swelling are normal. Some bruising may also occur.

◎  You may experience some tenderness at the treatment site(s) that can last for a few hours or a few days.

POST-TREATMENT

Stay upright for 4 hours following the treatment. Do not rest your head or lie down.

Avoid excessive heat such as saunas or hot showers as it may cause bleeding and bruising.

Avoid strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours as it may cause bruising and swelling.

Avoid extended UV exposure until any redness/swelling has subsided. Apply an SPF 30 or higher sunscreen.

Avoid drinking alcohol for 24 hours after the treatment as it may cause bruising.

You may apply a cold compress or an icepack (avoiding pressure) to reduce swelling and bruising.

You may begin wearing makeup once any pinpoint bleeding (if any) from the injection sites subside.

Be gentle when touching the newly treated areas.

Avoid drinking from a straw immediately after your treatment, if lips were treated.

Wait 24 hours before receiving any skincare or laser treatments.

Some temporary injection-related reactions may occur, including redness, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps. Studies have shown that these are usually mild to moderate in nature and clear up on their own in 7 days or less.

You should see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle-smoothing, and the results last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years depending on the product. Results may vary and corrections are temporary. Supplemental touch-ups may be required to achieve and maintain optimal results.

FILLERS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Simply Radiant offers the full line of Juvederm® products – Ultra, Ultra Plus, Voluma and Vobella – to complete your facial enhancements.

JUVEDERM® contains highly cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) particles in the highest concentration available which allows for the longevity of this material.  HA is a natural substance produced in the body to add moisture to the skin.  When injected in to the skin, it brings moisture to the skin and increases volume, so skin looks smoother and more youthful. Since JUVEDERM® has no animal origin and contains HA, there is no risk of adverse reaction to the skin.
As a dermal fillers for skin imperfections due to aging, JUVEDERM® is a safe and effective treatment for moderate to severe wrinkles and lines.  It is most commonly used to diminish fine facial lines lip lines, sagging cheeks, lip augmentation, and marionette lines. A non-surgical enhancement to give you a more youthful appearance, dermal fillers are a safe, immediate treatment that can take years off your face the same day.

Our procedures are minimally invasive and utilize the newest technology in the cosmetics industry. JUVEDERM® is a hyaluronic acid-based filler that fills the folds and creases in your face and restores volume to your lips. This substance occurs naturally in the body, but as we age, we produce less and less of it, which causes dryness and wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid stimulates the production of collagen, a connective tissue that makes the skin appear plump and moisturized. By receiving a JUVEDERM® treatment, your lips will be restored with moisture and plumpness. For full, eye-catching lips, we use JUVEDERM® ULTRA XC. If you prefer a more natural-looking result, we use JUVEDERM® Volbella XC, which subtly plumps lips and smooths the fine vertical lines around the mouth. It’s a product that consistently delivers safe and reliable results. JUVEDERM® injections last longer and work quicker than other fillers.

If you are over 21 years of age and looking to enhance your lips, consider a lip filler treatment. Avoid getting lip filler treatments if you have an infection at the injection site, or if you are allergic to the lidocaine that is used to reduce pain. If you take blood thinners or anti-inflammatory drugs for a medical reason, consult your doctor before scheduling an appointment with us. It is not advised to receive lip filler treatments during pregnancy.

We offer lip filler for the following areas: Tear Toughs, Marionette Lines, Crepe-Like Skin, and Jowls.

JUVEDERM® syringes contain lidocaine, so that during your treatment, you experience as little pain as possible. The needles we use are extremely thin to prevent discomfort.

Because JUVEDERM® uses hyaluronic acid, there is no risk of an allergic reaction; this substance is naturally produced by your body. Some common side effects are redness, swelling, and dryness, but these lessen in the days and weeks following your treatment.

The treatment itself can last up to one year. To maintain your results, you can book a follow-up appointment in the future when you desire to add more volume to your lips.

ANTI-AGING

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

As we age and battle skin conditions, the natural architecture of our skin deteriorates, which leads to fine lines, wrinkles, large pores and uneven skin texture. Collagen induction therapy, also known as microneedling, Is a great way to address these signs of aging at the cellular level. Microneedling comfortably creates thousands of micro-injuries in the skin to trigger the body’s natural wound healing process, This results in skin remodeling, including the formation of collagen and elastin, the two proteins predominantly responsible for the structure of the skin. The outcome is beautiful, youthful looking skin.

During a microneedling treatment, the precise needles in the SkinPen create micro-injuries in the skin – needles puncture the skin, creating some physical trauma. These small wounds stimulate the skin and prompt it to produce collagen, which rejuvenates the skin and creates new skin cells. It repairs the skin and creates a youthful, tighter appearance. The depth of the needle penetration is adjusted based on your skin type.

There are a variety of conditions that microneedling can improve. They include hyperpigmentation, enlarged pores, acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, texture, and lax skin. If you have any infections, active acne, lesions, or difficulty with wound healing, then this treatment is not recommended for you. Those who use acne medications like retinol are advised to discontinue usage of them for several days before the appointment. Microneedling is not recommended for those who are pregnant.

Most patients find the experience to be relatively comfortable. The idea of having needles in your skin may sound painful, but since they only penetrate the surface layer, only mild discomfort is experienced. You will notice mild skin irritation following the procedure; side effects include redness, dryness, and swelling. In rare cases, patients may experience bruising, bleeding, or infections.

It takes an average of 5 days to see results from a microneedling treatment. Your results will continue to improve over the coming days and weeks; as collagen production increases, some patients see the best results several months after their treatment. Patients notice a difference in the appearance of their skin for up to 6 months. With more appointments, you will see improved results; the effects are cumulative.

Known to some as the “Viva” or “skin resurfacing”, this non-ablative treatment combines NanoFractional Radio Frequency and SmartScan technology to improve the overall texture of your skin by addressing a wide range of common concerns. What makes it unique is its ability to cover a greater surface area and treat multiple issues in the same session.

By using radio frequency waves to safely deliver heat to deeper skin layers through 160 tiny pins, this device creates “micro damage” to highly specific, targeted areas. This stimulates your body’s natural repair processes, which leads to a stronger collagen support network and the growth of new skin cells. As the body repairs itself, you will notice smoother skin texture and reduction of dark spots. To reduce recovery time, the “Viva” delivers the waves in separate columns that only treat a portion of the area. By leaving more of the tissue untouched, your body is able to heal faster, thereby eliminating the need to take time off work.

Our skin resurfacing treatments safely and effectively reduce signs of skin damage and improve the appearance of uneven skin textures – such as scars, wrinkles, enlarged pores, discolouration, acne scarring or stretch marks – no matter how fair or dark your skin tone. Within just a couple of sessions, you’ll notice a naturally smoother, more radiant, and healthier-looking complexion that lasts.

TriBella combines the power of three unique non-surgical procedures into one complete skin renewal treatment — resulting in incredibly smoother, younger, healthier-looking skin. This high-intensity non-invasive solution gives highly visible results faster and in fewer treatments. TriBella combines photofacial, anti-aging, and skin resurfacing treatments in one session — making it the most comprehensive and effective answer for complete skin renewal.

(1) Photofacial: TriBella photofacials use precise bursts of intense pulsed light to improve the appearance of uneven skin tone and sun damage. The light targets and reduces the hemoglobin pigment inside visible blood vessels and dark pigmented spots. The result is glowing, younger-looking skin.

(2) Anti-Aging: TriBella anti-aging uses a comfortable combination of energy types to produce heat beneath the skin, helping to promote healthy blood flow and increase the production of collagen and elastic fibers. The result is skin that looks tighter and younger, and with fewer lines or wrinkles.

(3) Skin Resurfacing: TriBella skin resurfacing improves skin texture by delivering energy deep into the skin, using tiny electrode pins
to create micro-dermal wounds with minimal impact
on the epidermis. As the skin heals, it naturally boosts collagen and elastin production for total skin renewal.

(1) Tone: Photofacial treatment corrects discoloration, fades age spots, reduces sun damage, and improves skin tone.

(2) Elasticity: Anti-aging treatment erases fine lines, reduces wrinkles, and firms up skin.

(3) Texture: Skin resurfacing treatment smoothens out uneven skin texture, scars, rosacea, enlarged pores, stretch marks, and other skin textural conditions.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy uses your own blood to encourage the production of new collagen. Our blood contains platelets, which work to heal damaged tissues including our skin and hair follicles.

During a PRP Therapy, a small amount of blood is extracted from your arm and placed in a specially designed centrifuge. The blood is spun at such a rate that the red blood cells separate from the platelets and plasma. The ‘platelet rich’ plasma is then injected back into the patient, helping to rejuvenate the trouble areas.

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy is a suitable and effective treatment designed to tackle various skin concerns on the face, hands and scalp.

PIGMENT & VASCULAR

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

IPL photorejuvenation is the latest in modern dermatology, allowing clients to safely and effectively transform their blotchy, uneven skin tone into an even, luminous one. IPL Photofacial, also known as skin rejuvenation, is a procedure where intense pulse light (IPL) is used to fade the appearance of various vascular and pigmented lesions. It is used to fade common signs of premature aging, enlarged pore size, fine lines and wrinkles. IPL also brightens the skin.

A cool gel is applied to the treatment area, protective goggles are worn to protect the eyes from the bright light, the IPL piece is gently placed on to your skin and pulses of light applied.

Some people liken an IPL shot to a small elastic band flicking onto the skin, followed by a warm sensation. People have described it as more comfortable than waxing. One reason for doing a patch test is to ensure the settings are comfortable for you. But the sensation will vary from person to person, and for some women may depend on the time of the month.

ACNE

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy is a gentle, safe and effective treatment to improve the appearance of many skin irregularities. This advanced light treatment can help to treat cystic acne, rosacea, spider veins, uneven pigmentation, sun spots, sagging skin and many common signs of aging.

For acne treatments, an AC Dual applicator uses IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) to simultaneously address both the cause and visible symptoms of acne. Dual light treatment includes a blue light and a red light. The Blue light targets porphyrian, the most common acne-causing bacteria. The blue light leads to destruction of the bacteria, while the red light controls inflammation and promotes faster healing. This treatment also shrinks the sebaceous glands to stop overproduction of oils that cause acne, preventing future breakouts, and helping to eliminate current ones.

Many clients choose to combine IPL with the VIVA skin resurfacing treatment to both clear skin and eliminate acne scarring. The two treatments combined, work effectively to pull deep pigmentation and unwanted superficial scarring, and to rebalance acne prone skin. They will keep your complexion glowing, collagen stimulated and acne at bay. The number of IPL treatments required will vary depending on the severity of the acne.

SPIDER VEINS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy is a gentle, safe and effective treatment to improve the appearance of many skin irregularities. This advanced light treatment can help to treat cystic acne, rosacea, spider veins, uneven pigmentation, sun spots, sagging skin and many common signs of aging.

The medical term for spider veins is telangiectasias. These fine red and purple veins are approximately 1 millimeter or less in size and can occur anywhere on the body. Patients most commonly seek treatment for spider veins on the legs and chest. Spider veins are often found in combination with varicose veins. There are no health risks with spider veins but they are a common cosmetic concern. The tendency to develop spider veins is inherited but can also occur after localized trauma and can worsen with pregnancy.

Intense-Pulsed Light Treatment (IPL) utilizes a light source to reduce their appearance and rejuvenate the skin. IPL directly treats spider veins by damaging the walls of the blood vessel by applying heat to it. Once the blood vessel is damaged, it will eventually disappear and be reabsorbed by the body. IPL is effective because it treats the lower layers of the skin. The light penetrates the skin affecting the spider veins without damaging the surface of the skin. Additionally, IPL is effective because it has the capability to treat both larger and smaller areas because the amount of heat from each wavelength can be manipulated.

IPL works well on most skin types to reduce and eliminate their appearance however, darker skin tones might affect your results.
