HOW IT WORKS

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) for acne is a type of cosmetic treatment that uses a broad-spectrum light to target and destroy acne-causing bacteria in the skin. The IPL device emits a range of light wavelengths that are absorbed by the skin, particularly by the pigment in the acne-causing bacteria. This causes the bacteria to heat up and be destroyed, reducing inflammation and the severity of breakouts. Additionally, IPL can also help to reduce the appearance of acne scars and hyperpigmentation, improving the overall appearance and texture of the skin.

WHAT TO EXPECT

During an IPL treatment for acne, you can expect to wear protective eyewear while the we apply a cooling gel to the treatment area. The IPL device emits a broad-spectrum light, which is directed at the treatment area in short pulses. You may feel a mild sensation similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin, but the procedure is typically well-tolerated by most individuals. The entire treatment typically takes anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size and location of the treatment area.

POST-TREATMENT

After undergoing IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment for acne, it is important to follow certain post-treatment care instructions to ensure the best possible results. This includes avoiding sun exposure, using sunscreen with at least SPF 30, and avoiding irritating skincare products for a few days after the treatment. Additionally, it is important to keep the treated area clean and moisturized.

Patients can expect a reduction in acne and scars over time, with some improvement visible immediately after the first treatment. However, multiple sessions may be required for optimal results, and the exact number will vary depending on the severity of the acne and the patient’s individual response to the treatment.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

These acne treatments work best for light to medium skin tones. The treatment may work on darker skin, but there is a higher risk of discolouration because darker skin has more pigment in it. It’s best to consult with your treatment provider to see if the treatment is right for you.

Make sure your skin is clean. Do not apply any lotions, creams, or makeup before your session, and stop using any products that might irritate your skin 2-3 days before. You should also avoid tanning. You may be advised to shave the area before your treatment. Remove all jewelry around the area being treated.

Most patients receive a total of 8-10 treatments. Treatments are usually done twice a week for a month with treatments scheduled 3-4 days apart.

It depends on the severity of your skin and how well you take care of your skin after your treatment. We recommend a touch-up session twice a month, then monthly. Once the acne starts clearing up, you can then increase the time between maintenance treatments depending on how your skin responds to the treatment.

There is no downtime. You can return to your daily schedule immediately after your treatment.
